Facon (Vegan Bacon)

It's a lot of work, but you will be amazed how much this reminds you of real bacon (minus the fat and dead pigs). It's way better than commercially available veggie bacon. This recipe is adapted from one I found on the internet. I am grateful to the original concocter, whomever you are!

Press the tofu between paper towels for half an hour to remove as much water as you can. Slice as thinly as possible (a wire cheese slicer works very well). Heat the oil in two very large skillets if you have them (otherwise do in two batches) over medium-low heat. Lay the tofu slices in the oil without overlapping and cook slowly for 10-15 minutes each side. When they have given up their remaining moisture and are LIGHT brown, they are done. Remove pan(s)from heat. Dump all tofu into a single pan. Add the combined tamari and Liquid Smoke and stir to coat well. Sprinkle the nutritional yeast over all, and continue to stir over the heat until the liquid is about all gone.
